Bivona's Ride for Missing Children: Van Gothner's Best Buddies

There are so many rides taking place this May, and BBB would like to mention them all.

Time constraints make that difficult. We'll be posting a round up soon, but here is mentioned two rides mostly to benefit children.

The first is a ride for Missing and Exploited Children, as hosted and ridden by Lou Bivona who is on the board of the organization (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, or NCMEC).

The other half of BBB (Hotvelociti) designed and produced NCMEC's bike jersey, (here displayed). It's available at the Tenafly Bike Workshop and the Piermont Bicycle Connection.

But in the meantime, please take a moment to give a couple of bucks to Bivona's ride. On the 15th he'll be riding 100 miles for the children. This includes little children snatched off the streets, and kept either for ransom, or tortured or killed. NCMEC is instrumental in searching for those children in a timely fashion before they are hurt.

Even if you give a small portion of your money--like $5 or $10 or $15, or more if you can afford it, the dollars will be used to save the poor little ones from destruction by the loonies who have taken them. Below is the message from Bivona:

Dear Friend,

We are all in a tough economy but we cannot look away for that reason. Your donation is so important to helping our children not face the horrors of being exploited.
For that reason last Friday we rode 100 miles on our bikes in Buffalo and tomorrow, Friday May 15th we are riding another 100 miles in Rochester to show how strongly we feel about the problem facing our children. I would like you to join me by clicking on the link at the end of this message below to show your support in making a change for our kids.

Also of note is a ride by Van Gothner and Betsy Davison called Little Buddies Challenge which takes place May 30t. It's a fundraiser for children and young adults with intellectual disabilities. The Van Gothners, if you recall, were very good friends of Camille Savoy, who was struck and killed last November by a careless driver on Rte. 9W in Alpine, NJ.

They came to Savoy's bike memorial in December and recalled him with great emotion. Savoy used to ride with the Gothner and Davison in the annual Best Buddies ride. Now, his ghost bike sits, with buds just appearing on the two trees planted in his memory.

Van and Betsey will be riding and would love to have your contribution, whatever it is. Feel generous, and give--for the children!!! Here is a message from the couple:

It is now just over 2 weeks until we ride.

Please make your contribution before May 22nd and support Best Buddies' efforts and programs for people with intellectual disabilities.

Thank you,

Van Gothner & Betsy Davison

LostNMissing, ran by a gal who makes banners for the Lost and Missing, has been entered into a contest on Twitter.

If she ends up in the final twenty, she will have a huge spotlight put on her work that highlights the Lost and Missing.

I run and was contacted by one of her people.

The Twitter page keeps giving people a hard time opening and a lot of people give up trying to vote. As a result, all the pretty girls that are in it just for fame are winning. Some already famous people are in the contest too, like Oprah.

People can vote twice an hour, and the contest ends, June 8, 2009.

Information can be found on a page of mine:

Thanks for any help,
